How to:
- Press the tip of your tongue firmly against the roof of your mouth, just behind your front teeth

- Hold for 2 seconds, return to start
Reps: 20 repetitions, 3x daily
Exercise 2: Tongue Stretch
Target: Tongue length and strength, reducing how far it can fall back during sleep.
How to:
- Stick your tongue out as far as possible
- Try to touch your chin, then your nose (or reach in each direction)
- Hold each position for 10 seconds
Reps: 10 repetitions per direction, 2x daily
Exercise 3: Soft Palate Vowel Repetition
Target: Soft palate (the tissue that vibrates during snoring).
How to:
- Say the vowels A-E-I-O-U slowly and deliberately, exaggerating mouth and throat movement
- Focus on engaging the back of the throat, not just the lips
Duration: 3 minutes, 3x daily
Exercise 4: Jaw Release
Target: Jaw tension that contributes to mouth breathing and snoring.
How to:
- Open your mouth as wide as possible (like a big yawn)
- While open, move the lower jaw left, then right, then in a circular motion
- Close slowly
Reps: 10 complete repetitions, 2x daily
Exercise 5: Throat Contraction ("Gargle")
Target: Upper throat and uvula muscles — the structures most directly involved in snoring vibration.
How to:
- Gargle with water (or just air) for 30 seconds
- Focus on strongly contracting the back of the throat during each gargle
- This can be done at any time — even without water
Duration: 2 minutes, 2x daily
Exercise 6: Nose Breathing Practice
Target: Reduces mouth breathing (a primary driver of snoring).
How to:
- Sit upright, close your mouth completely
- Breathe in slowly through your nose for 4 counts
- Hold for 4 counts
- Exhale through your nose for 6 counts
- Repeat
Duration: 5 minutes before bed (conditions the habit of nose breathing during sleep)
Exercise 7: The "Singing" Exercise
Target: Multiple throat and tongue muscles simultaneously.
How to:
- Sing out loud (or hum if preferred) for 20 minutes daily
- Focus on sustained notes and vocal variation
- Choir singing, car singing, shower singing all count
Research note: A 2008 study found regular singing reduced snoring in participants — singing is essentially a full oropharyngeal workout.
How Long Before You See Results?
Most people notice some reduction in snoring within 4–6 weeks of consistent daily practice. Full benefit typically takes 2–3 months.
Consistency is more important than duration — 10 minutes daily beats 45 minutes three times per week.
When Exercise Alone Isn't Enough
If your snoring is loud, involves gasping or choking sounds, and your partner reports you stopping breathing during sleep, this may indicate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) — a medical condition that requires professional evaluation and usually CPAP therapy.
